From the People Who Live in the Rooms

I had been living with the same furniture arrangement for four years and knew something was off, but I could not put my finger on it. The Concept Brief made it immediately clear — two pieces were fighting for the same visual role and the room had no quiet area. The brief was specific and actionable, not vague. I followed it almost to the letter.

We used the Sourcing service after the full documentation was done. Lin Wei found a small side table and a set of lamps that I would never have found on my own, at a price band that worked. The note explaining why each piece was chosen was more useful than I expected — it helped me understand what the room needed rather than just what looked nice in a catalogue photo.

The full documentation service was worth doing properly. The drawing set was clear enough that the contractor could work from it without needing me to translate everything. The reasoning notes were an unexpected bonus — they made it much easier to push back on the contractor when he suggested changes that would have undermined the composition.

I was sceptical that a Concept Brief alone would be worth the fee, but it turned out to be exactly the right scope for where I was. I had been circling the room for two years, adding things and moving them around without progress. Having someone look at it carefully and give me a written direction cut through all of that. The one revision note — about the ceiling light being too centred — changed the whole feeling of the space.

My apartment had pieces collected from Japan, Malaysia, and a few from an antique market in Penang. I was worried they would not work together. Nadia looked at everything and identified a common material thread — mostly dark wood and pale linen — that I had not consciously noticed. The brief used that thread as the organising logic and everything that followed made sense.

The Sourcing service handled a living room that was almost there but missing two or three things. The piece I was most uncertain about — a small cabinet for a corner I could never resolve — was exactly right once it arrived. The placement visit was useful too. Lin Wei rearranged two existing pieces while she was there and that adjustment made more difference than the new additions.

Three Rooms, Three Different Starting Points

The Situation

A Living Room With Too Many Focal Points

A Damansara Jaya apartment living room with seven pieces, all of reasonable quality, but competing with each other in tone, scale, and visual weight. The client described the room as "restless" despite containing nothing obviously wrong.

The Approach

Concept Brief, One Revision

The studio identified two pieces whose similar visual weight was causing competition rather than dialogue. The brief suggested one piece move to a different room and proposed a quieter alternative — a low shelf — for the vacated spot. The layout was also redrawn with a clear primary seating axis.

The Outcome

Two Weeks, One Move, Noticeably Different

The client relocated one piece, sourced the shelf independently (using the brief's suggested criteria), and carried out the layout change. The room was complete within three weeks of receiving the brief. No renovation required.

"I did not expect a written document to change how the room felt. But it did." — S.R., Damansara Jaya

The Situation

Full Renovation With an Existing Collection

A Subang Jaya terraced house undergoing a full interior renovation. The clients had fifteen pieces — art, ceramics, furniture — that they wanted to keep. Contractors had told them to "start fresh." The clients disagreed.

The Approach

Full Documentation, Six Weeks

The studio catalogued all fifteen pieces, assessed their spatial roles, and built the entire documentation set around them. Joinery was designed to accommodate specific items. Lighting was positioned to work with the existing art placement. Two revision rounds refined the joinery proportions.

The Outcome

Renovation Completed, Collection Intact

The renovation proceeded with the full drawing set. All fifteen pieces were retained and placed as documented. The clients added three new pieces post-completion, sourced independently using criteria from the brief. Total project timeline: four months including renovation.

"The drawings were clear enough that the contractor had no excuse to do things differently." — N.I., Subang Jaya

The Situation

A Well-Functioning Room Missing Its Last Few Pieces

A Mont Kiara apartment dining room with a strong collection and a workable layout, but an empty corner and a table that needed a different type of lighting overhead. The client knew what was missing in general terms but not specifically.

The Approach

Sourcing and Curated Adds, Four Weeks

The studio researched two items: a corner piece and a pendant light. For each, options across two budget bands were prepared, with a short note on how each related to the existing room. The client chose one option from each band across the two items. A placement visit followed delivery.

The Outcome

Four Weeks, Two New Pieces, Room Complete

The corner piece and pendant light were sourced, selected, and installed within four weeks. The placement visit involved a minor repositioning of an existing console which made the whole composition read more clearly. No further additions were needed.

"She rearranged one existing piece while she was there and that turned out to matter more than the new additions." — Y.C., Mont Kiara
