Layered eclectic room

The Case for Working With a Studio That Starts With What You Have

Most design practices treat existing furniture as an obstacle. Kelena treats it as a starting point.

Six Reasons Kelena Works Well for Eclectic Interiors

Existing Pieces Stay Central

The work begins with what you already have. Your collection is the primary material, not a problem to be cleared before the "real" design begins.

Reasoning in Writing

Significant choices come with a short explanatory note. You know why something is proposed, which makes revision conversations more productive.

Published, Fixed Fees

All three services have a stated price. There are no discovery fees, no retainers, and no markups on sourced furniture pieces.

Services That Scale to Your Stage

From a direction brief for one room through to full documentation for an apartment — you engage at the level that fits where you are in the process.

Klang Valley Knowledge

Familiar with local light conditions, floor plan conventions, and supplier availability. Recommendations are grounded in what is actually accessible in Malaysia.

Private by Default

Project details and photography are never used publicly without consent. Your home stays yours.

Over a Decade Working With Layered Homes

The studio team brings more than thirteen years of residential interior design experience across Petaling Jaya and the wider Klang Valley. That experience is specifically weighted towards rooms with existing collections — not the blank-canvas projects that dominate most design portfolios.

  • Experienced with Malaysian residential floor plans
  • Knowledge of regional suppliers and makers
  • Residential design across PJ, Bangsar, Subang Jaya

Specialist Focus

Kelena is not a generalist studio taking on any residential job. The practice is deliberately narrow: layered interiors, eclectic collections, rooms with history. That focus means the team's knowledge is deep where it needs to be.

A Process With Clear Stages

Each service has a defined set of deliverables. You know what you are receiving before the work begins, and there is no ambiguity about when it is complete.

Structured Engagements, No Open-Ended Commitments

All three services are scoped projects with agreed deliverables. The Concept Brief produces a written document and visual direction. Full Documentation produces a complete drawing set with revisions. Sourcing produces sourced options with placement support. Each ends when it is done.

  • Defined deliverables per service
  • Two revision rounds in Full Documentation
  • No retainer or open-ended fee structures

Transparent Pricing, No Hidden Costs

Design fees are fixed and stated in advance. Concept Brief: RM 460. Full Documentation: RM 3,150. Sourcing and Curated Adds: RM 1,580. Furniture and contractor costs are separate and clearly itemised — they are never absorbed into the design fee and marked up.

  • Published fees for all three services
  • No percentage markup on sourced pieces
  • Itemised costs at each stage

Fees That Reflect the Scope

A direction brief for a single room is priced accordingly. Full documentation for a complete interior costs more, for obvious reasons. You are not paying for services you do not need.

Distinctive Aspects of the Kelena Approach

01

The Collection-First Brief

Before any new additions are discussed, the studio documents and maps what is already in the room. This inventory shapes everything that follows — proportions, gaps, tone, and the search criteria for any new pieces.

02

Two-Budget Sourcing

The Sourcing service offers options across two price bands for each item, so decisions are practical and grounded. You can see what a considered choice looks like at different spend levels before committing.

03

The Reasoning Note

Each significant proposal in the Full Documentation package comes with a short written note explaining the logic. This is not a common practice — most studios present solutions without explanation, leaving clients to accept or reject without full understanding.

04

Modular Engagement

Clients can begin with just the Concept Brief and stop there if that is all they need. There is no obligation to commit to the full sequence of services. Each engagement stands on its own.
